Expand and upgrade colonial

An empty nester couple elected to add onto and upgrade their Colonial in Acton, rather than move. We raised a sunken floor and removed walls to connect a remodeled kitchen to a family room. Large sliding glass doors open onto a new screen porch overlooking conservation land. Decks and stairs, with cable rails, connect to a new lower patio. We added a media/golf simulation room with a high cathedral ceiling on the north side of the house. All the bathrooms were remodeled, and the primary bath was expanded to include a large shower, soaking tub, two sinks and separate toilet area. A large walk-in closet, with built-ins was added off the primary bedroom. The entire house was converted to geothermal heating and cooling and the fireplace was changed from wood burning to gas.
